I had the pleasure recently of going to the Quintic Putting Laboratory in Coventry to meet up with EGTF Professional and the world’s leading putting guru, Dr Paul Hurrion.
Paul was taking me through the intricacies of the Quintic Ball Roll Software, which can revolutionise the way putting can be analysed and taught. It is now used on Tour by Taylormade and Cleveland/Srixon to test their putters as it gives fantastic feedback as to what the putter and ball are doing at impact. It is basically a launch monitor for putting!!
Paul’s knowledge on the biomechanics of the putting stroke are second to none in the golf industry and why the world’s best players trust their strokes to him (Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington and Robert Karlsson to name a few).
Spending some time at a facility like this is eye opening and really does bring it home to you that putting is very much a technical discipline and not ‘about the feel’ as many coaches will tell you.
The Ball Roll Software spits out loads of data that can help analyse the problems that people have in their putting strokes, and it is definitely worth looking at more seriously if you want to branch out and become a putting specialist.
GEL GOLF have some Putting Academies operating in the UK which are doing very well, using Paul’s software along with the GEL Putters he designed. More information on becoming a GEL Fitting Centre can be see on www.gelgolf.co.uk
The Ball Roll Software for 2011 includes a very upmarket, high speed camera to help with the analysis, lights and a camera station. Although the prices are not cheap, if you want to take putting to the highest level, then it would be a great investment. The whole package is around £5,000.
A big thank you to Paul for all his help and expertise, and if you would like to know more about the Ball Roll Software, log onto www.quinticballroll.com or www.quintic.com
